Do you need a Free Food Hygiene Certificate?

For most people in the UK getting a free food hygiene certificate has given them the opportunity to work in the food handling industry at no cost to themselves. The current cost of a basic food hygiene certificate is approximately £25-30 plus vat, but that’s about £25-30 more than what most people are willing to pay for the qualification.

Quite a number of large companies in the UK are offering free onsite training in food safety which means food handlers can get a free food hygiene certificate without having to pay anything, this is a much welcomed idea for most people because it gives them an extra qualification free of charge.

The main draw back of using the company sponsored free food hygiene course is that you have to attend the training on their specified date whereas the online course allows you to get your food hygiene certificate in your own spare time.

Another alternative you can use to get a free food hygiene certificate is to signup for government funded courses these are designed specifically for people who are trying to get qualified on a budget, these courses run either once or twice a month and are completely free to those in need.

If you’re about to start a new job in the food handling industry whether it’s in retail, manufacturing or catering and you’re about to take the food hygiene training course you should keep all receipts and inquire with the company if you can be reimbursed for the cost of the training so in the end they pay the bill and you get your free food hygiene certificate.
